Today, our hearts are filled with sadness because of the tragic death of CSEA friend and ally State Representative Q Williams. Q was always there for our members, his constituents, and all working people.
In 2007, Quentin “Q” Williams was first elected to the Planning & Zoning commission in Middletown, then in 2009 he was unanimously elected Chair of the Commission. From there, he served as City Treasurer in 2011, where he was re-elected in 2015. Q’s first year serving in the Connecticut House of Representatives was in 2019 and he was just sworn-in for his third term yesterday, January 4, 2023.
CSEA cannot understate how big a hole Q’s death will leave in the hearts of each of our members. Q came from a union household, his mother was an 1199 member, and he continued his family's legacy when he became an SEIU member with the 4Cs. He carried those values with him to the General Assembly where he tirelessly advocated for collective bargaining, workers’ rights, and other policies that empower working people and break down barriers like race and class that are too often used to divide us.
We send all of our love to his friends, family, and colleagues as we all continue to mourn this momentous loss.
Rest in peace, brother.
